Cornelius R. French and family papers, 1800-1920.

Business and professional papers include receipts for medical services and supplies provided by French, statements of accounts, medical notes, a prescription, and a stock certificate for a Louisiana railroad company. Military items include a request for medical assistance during the Battle of New Orleans (1815), the appointment of Captain Thomas Edwards to Company A of the Concordia Parish Militia (1863), and a statement by a group of Baton Rouge citizens concerning the safety of the city (Aug. 1862). Correspondence is chiefly personal in nature. Topics mentioned in correspondence include sawmill and railroad accidents (1839). Manuscript volumes include 2 daybooks by Esther French (1840-1861), one daybook by Charles S. French (1854-1857), one by Charles R. French (1855-1858), and a blank book. Two photographs depict Henry Walker (1846) and an unidentified man in uniform (n.d.). Newspaper clippings include reports on Shaker communities in Ohio and Tennessee and reports on causes of influenza. Printed items include "Ayer's American almanac for the use of farmers, planters, and all families" (1867) and a fragment of "Buist's almanac and garden manual" (n.d.). Also inlcuded is a description of the flag made and flown in the Spanish Fort at Baton Rouge after the Fort was taken by General Thomas in 1810.
